The Indian Punjab is to be found in the north west of India. It is an important centre of Sikh history and culture, as well as being the spiritual centre of the Sikh religion, and home to the iconic Golden Temple at Amritsar. Being the gateway for travellers coming to India on the overland route from central Asia, it soon became the centre of various commercial activities.
